.edu email
You sign up with your real campus email. We verify the domain belongs to an accredited college or university. No personal Gmail, no fake forwarding addresses — and no walk-in signup without it.
No "trust us." No marketing-speak privacy policy. Here's exactly what we verify, what we store, what we never sell, and what happens the moment something goes wrong. Read it. Then hold us to it.
Every other "safety" platform leans on the same two words: trust us. sidexside doesn't. The whole product is built on verifiable specifics — three steps of identity check, location that clears itself, an SOS your trusted contacts actually see. The list on this page is the contract. If we break it, you should leave.
Verification is the product. Without it, sidexside is just another map app with strangers on it. So we don't skip a step. For anyone.
You sign up with your real campus email. We verify the domain belongs to an accredited college or university. No personal Gmail, no fake forwarding addresses — and no walk-in signup without it.
You upload a photo of your student ID. It's encrypted at rest. We match the name, photo, and institution against your account, then it lives in an encrypted vault — not in any feed, ever.
A one-time, in-app liveness check proves you're the same person on the ID — and a real, present human, not a photo of one. This is the anti-catfish layer.
Each of these is one your administration said was impossible. None of them were. They just weren't priorities. Now they're ours.
.edu + campus ID + live selfie. No strangers, no unknowns, no exceptions. The starting line, not the finish.
One tap shares live location with your trusted contacts and campus safety — without fumbling for a blue box.
Rate every walk. Community accountability that isn't moderated into silence by a campus PR office.
Share your real-time dot with up to three trusted contacts during every walk. Paused the moment you're home.
Your data stays yours. No data brokers. No retargeting. No selling to anybody. No exceptions, no asterisks.
24 / 7 / 365 availability. No service hours, no holiday closures, no jurisdiction cliff. Just go.
Two columns. The left is what we promise. The right is what we will never do — including the things every other "free" safety app does to pay the bills.
The spec, in one screen. If you ever need to audit us, this is the row you'll read.

Most safety apps stop at "we'll call 911." sidexside doesn't. Here's the exact escalation path, in order — what fires the moment you tap, who gets the alert, and how fast the right people get the context they need to actually show up.
Hold-to-confirm SOS fires. No sound, no flash — the person near you doesn't know it happened.
Your 2–3 trusted people get an SMS with live location, route, and matched-walker name. No app install required.
If you've opted in, campus safety receives the same live dot and context — with your school's dispatch already pre-loaded.
Your location keeps streaming until you cancel in-app. Trusted contacts can see "arrived" or escalate to 911 from the link.
We will not sell your location, identity, or behavior. Not bundled, not anonymized, not "as part of an acquisition." Not.
We will not let anonymous accounts onto the network — even temporarily, even as a "growth test." Verification is the product.
We will not keep your route after the walk ends. The dot dies when the walk does.
We will not show advertising or build a marketing profile. You are not the product. The subscription pays the bills.
We will not hand data to a university administration without a subpoena, legal review, and (where legal) user notification. Your school is not your shareholder.
We will not add features that compromise the women-only verified principle to grow faster. If we ever do, leave.

Three steps, no exceptions. (1) .edu institutional email tied to an accredited campus. (2) Campus ID photo upload, encrypted in a vault separate from your account. (3) Live, in-app selfie liveness check that proves the ID belongs to the present, real human signing up. See the verification spec.
No. The .edu requirement filters non-students. The campus ID + live selfie filters men. There is no version of the signup flow that skips any step. The women-only verified network is the entire point — without it, sidexside is just another location app with strangers.
No. Location is ephemeral — it's only live while you're on a walk and clears the moment you mark the trip complete (or the destination is reached). We don't store a location history, run background tracking, or build a route timeline. Closed app = no signal.
A hold-to-confirm tap silently alerts your trusted contacts within 2 seconds and (if you've opted in) campus safety within 5 seconds. The alert includes your live location, walking route, and matched-walker name. Streaming continues until you cancel. See the full incident-response flow.
No — and we don't have a "but" attached to it. We don't sell to data brokers, advertisers, or any third party. We don't bundle "anonymized" location into research data sets. We don't include it in an acquisition. Subscription revenue pays the bills, full stop.
Only what's necessary to run the network: your .edu email, your encrypted ID photo (vaulted, not displayed), aggregate walk ratings, and a 30-day SOS event log used only for audit. We don't store the selfie, the route, or any marketing profile. See the full data table.
Every walk gets rated. Reports trigger immediate trust-team review (real humans), and accounts that fail review are removed permanently — across the entire network, no rejoining with a new email. We publish an annual transparency report listing removal counts and reason categories.
No. Not unless you've explicitly opted into a campus-safety SOS channel for emergencies — and even then, the data is the live SOS event, not your historical routes. We do not share user data with university administrations or campus PR offices without a subpoena and legal review.
Yes. sidexside is built to comply with the FTC Safeguards Rule, FERPA (where student records are touched), GDPR for international students, and CCPA/CPRA for California users. We don't process data outside what you'd expect from reading this page.
Open the app → Settings → Delete account. Everything goes: your .edu email, your encrypted ID, your ratings, your trusted-contact list. The SOS log is retained for 30 days for audit, then deleted. We confirm completion by email within 7 days.
Drop your .edu. Get priority access when sidexside launches on your campus.
