Trust & Safety

The safety contract.
In plain English.

Filed under verification, data, incident response

No "trust us." No marketing-speak privacy policy. Here's exactly what we verify, what we store, what we never sell, and what happens the moment something goes wrong. Read it. Then hold us to it.

── § A · The Contract

Trust isn't a vibe. It's a spec.

Every other "safety" platform leans on the same two words: trust us. sidexside doesn't. The whole product is built on verifiable specifics — three steps of identity check, location that clears itself, an SOS your trusted contacts actually see. The list on this page is the contract. If we break it, you should leave.

sidexside — safety and trust
sidexside three-step women-only verification: .edu email, campus ID, live selfie.
── § 01 · Verification

Three steps. No exceptions.

Verification is the product. Without it, sidexside is just another map app with strangers on it. So we don't skip a step. For anyone.

01/03
V.01 · Institutional

.edu email

You sign up with your real campus email. We verify the domain belongs to an accredited college or university. No personal Gmail, no fake forwarding addresses — and no walk-in signup without it.

02/03
V.02 · Document

Campus ID

You upload a photo of your student ID. It's encrypted at rest. We match the name, photo, and institution against your account, then it lives in an encrypted vault — not in any feed, ever.

03/03
V.03 · Liveness

Live selfie check

A one-time, in-app liveness check proves you're the same person on the ID — and a real, present human, not a photo of one. This is the anti-catfish layer.

Result: every account is a real, present, verified woman student. No anonymous users. No men. No bots. No exceptions.
── § 02 · The Six Trust Pillars

What sidexside guarantees.

Each of these is one your administration said was impossible. None of them were. They just weren't priorities. Now they're ours.

S.01

Verified women

.edu + campus ID + live selfie. No strangers, no unknowns, no exceptions. The starting line, not the finish.

S.02

Silent SOS

One tap shares live location with your trusted contacts and campus safety — without fumbling for a blue box.

S.03

Real ratings

Rate every walk. Community accountability that isn't moderated into silence by a campus PR office.

S.04

Live tracking

Share your real-time dot with up to three trusted contacts during every walk. Paused the moment you're home.

S.05

Private by default

Your data stays yours. No data brokers. No retargeting. No selling to anybody. No exceptions, no asterisks.

S.06

Always on

24 / 7 / 365 availability. No service hours, no holiday closures, no jurisdiction cliff. Just go.

── § 03 · The Data Contract

What we do. What we refuse.

Two columns. The left is what we promise. The right is what we will never do — including the things every other "free" safety app does to pay the bills.

[ What sidexside does ]

We do

  • Verify every user with .edu + campus ID + live selfie before they can match anyone.
  • Encrypt identity documents at rest, in a vault separate from your account.
  • Stream your live location to your trusted contacts only during a walk.
  • Auto-delete location data the moment you mark the walk complete.
  • Surface every walk's outcome to community ratings so bad actors leave the platform.
  • Publish a transparency report annually — how many removals, why, when.
[ What sidexside refuses ]

We don't

  • Sell or share your location, identity, or behavior with data brokers, advertisers, or anybody else — full stop.
  • Run background tracking when you're not on a walk. Closed app = no signal.
  • Keep a location history. No 30-day timeline. No "see where you've been." Nothing.
  • Show ads. Not on the map, not in the feed, not anywhere. You are not the product.
  • Let anonymous accounts match with anyone, ever, under any "growth experiment."
  • Hand data to administrators without a subpoena and a legal review.
── § 04 · The Storage Table

Exactly what we store — and for how long.

The spec, in one screen. If you ever need to audit us, this is the row you'll read.

sidexside silent SOS escalation flow at T+0, T+2, T+5 seconds.
── § 05 · Incident Response

When something goes wrong.

Most safety apps stop at "we'll call 911." sidexside doesn't. Here's the exact escalation path, in order — what fires the moment you tap, who gets the alert, and how fast the right people get the context they need to actually show up.

T+0 sec

Silent tap

Hold-to-confirm SOS fires. No sound, no flash — the person near you doesn't know it happened.

T+2 sec

Trusted contacts

Your 2–3 trusted people get an SMS with live location, route, and matched-walker name. No app install required.

T+5 sec

Campus safety

If you've opted in, campus safety receives the same live dot and context — with your school's dispatch already pre-loaded.

T+ongoing

Live stream

Your location keeps streaming until you cancel in-app. Trusted contacts can see "arrived" or escalate to 911 from the link.

── § 06 · Things We Will Not Do

Trust is what you refuse to do, too.

── § 07 · FAQ

Trust questions?

The specifics, asked the way you'd actually ask them. Can't find what you need? trust@sidexside.ai — answered by a human, within 24 hours.

Q.01How are sidexside users verified?

Three steps, no exceptions. (1) .edu institutional email tied to an accredited campus. (2) Campus ID photo upload, encrypted in a vault separate from your account. (3) Live, in-app selfie liveness check that proves the ID belongs to the present, real human signing up. See the verification spec.

Q.02Can men or non-students sign up for sidexside?

No. The .edu requirement filters non-students. The campus ID + live selfie filters men. There is no version of the signup flow that skips any step. The women-only verified network is the entire point — without it, sidexside is just another location app with strangers.

Q.03Does sidexside track my location after the walk ends?

No. Location is ephemeral — it's only live while you're on a walk and clears the moment you mark the trip complete (or the destination is reached). We don't store a location history, run background tracking, or build a route timeline. Closed app = no signal.

Q.04What happens during the silent SOS feature?

A hold-to-confirm tap silently alerts your trusted contacts within 2 seconds and (if you've opted in) campus safety within 5 seconds. The alert includes your live location, walking route, and matched-walker name. Streaming continues until you cancel. See the full incident-response flow.

Q.05Does sidexside sell my data?

No — and we don't have a "but" attached to it. We don't sell to data brokers, advertisers, or any third party. We don't bundle "anonymized" location into research data sets. We don't include it in an acquisition. Subscription revenue pays the bills, full stop.

Q.06What data does sidexside actually store?

Only what's necessary to run the network: your .edu email, your encrypted ID photo (vaulted, not displayed), aggregate walk ratings, and a 30-day SOS event log used only for audit. We don't store the selfie, the route, or any marketing profile. See the full data table.

Q.07What if a verified user behaves badly?

Every walk gets rated. Reports trigger immediate trust-team review (real humans), and accounts that fail review are removed permanently — across the entire network, no rejoining with a new email. We publish an annual transparency report listing removal counts and reason categories.

Q.08Will my university see my walking data?

No. Not unless you've explicitly opted into a campus-safety SOS channel for emergencies — and even then, the data is the live SOS event, not your historical routes. We do not share user data with university administrations or campus PR offices without a subpoena and legal review.

Q.09Is sidexside compliant with privacy regulations?

Yes. sidexside is built to comply with the FTC Safeguards Rule, FERPA (where student records are touched), GDPR for international students, and CCPA/CPRA for California users. We don't process data outside what you'd expect from reading this page.

Q.10What if I want to delete my account and all my data?

Open the app → Settings → Delete account. Everything goes: your .edu email, your encrypted ID, your ratings, your trusted-contact list. The SOS log is retained for 30 days for audit, then deleted. We confirm completion by email within 7 days.
